Unleash
Business and Entrepreneurship
Aspiring entrepreneurs are buried under a mountain of paperwork, confusing regulations, and bureaucratic delays before they can even open their doors. Lansing has created a maze of red tape that protects large, established players and punishes the next generation of innovators.
It’s time for a simple guarantee: starting a business in Michigan should be easy.
We will create a single online 1-Stop Shop portal for all state licenses and permits, replacing the need to navigate dozens of different agencies. Furthermore, we will implement a 1-In, 2-Out rule, requiring state administrative agencies to eliminate two old, outdated regulations for every new one they create. This will force a top-to-bottom review of our state's rulebook, clearing out the bureaucratic clutter that holds our businesses back.
Invest in Manufacturing
Outsourcing has helped the elites and hurt Michiganders. The market looks for cheap labor and short-term profits. Bringing advanced manufacturing back to Michigan is going to require bold planning and long-term thinking. Since the United States shifted to a service-based
economy, investors have less appetite for capital intensive industries like manufacturing which can take decades to turn a profit.

We need a multi-decade plan.

First, we should offer direct capital investment and tax credits to companies in high-tech manufacturing–computer chips, aerospace technology, automobiles, etc. We need to let these companies scale and learn from the domestic market before they can stand up to low-cost competitors globally. Then, after a critical mass is reached, the government phases out the tax credits. Those who survive will be fierce global competitors for generations to come.

This is very similar to the way capitalist countries like South Korea and Taiwan created international giants like Hyundai and TSMC. We can have pride in making things here again.
