It's Time for
Something New.

We see the same thing happen over and over again: career politicians back candidates that check all the boxes on paper, but when you look deeper, they are handpicked by special interests and political insiders.

Business-as-usual politics isn't serving us. For the young people who can't start their lives, working families drowning in bills, and seniors struggling to keep their homes, Roman is ready to shake up the status quo and deliver smart solutions which put Michigan first.

Michigan doesn't need to wait for the next generation of leadership.
It's already here.

"The next generation won't fix a broken system by waiting to inherit it — we'll fix it by stepping up to change it."

Roman Gaskey grew up in Lake Orion and Oxford, attending Lake Orion Community Schools. He graduated ranked #1 in his class, was named a WXYZ Brightest & Best honoree, and became a National Merit Finalist. Roman continued to make the most of Michigan’s public education system at the University of Michigan, where he studied mathematics and data science and earned his Bachelor of Science with honors. He supported PhD research in conjunction with the University of Pennsylvania on the role of partisanship in election administration which was published in 2025.

Before completing his studies, Roman helped startup founders raise capital. He also worked as a data analyst for a health insurance corporation. Following graduation, Roman joined a technology company working to improve efficiency and reduce costs in the legal sector. As a strategy and product analyst, he quality-checks products, conducts market research, and coordinates work between sales and engineering teams.

Roman is already serving our community. He is appointed to the Oxford Downtown Development Authority Economic Vitality Committee, where he has learned firsthand how local governments use state grants and support small businesses. Roman mentors elementary school students through a local Youth Assistance program and delivers Meals on Wheels to seniors in Auburn Hills.

Priorities

Everyone agrees that we need strong schools, good jobs, and a more affordable state. But most candidates cannot tell you how they will make it happen.

These challenges are connected. Roman is the only candidate with a long-term, comprehensive blueprint to make Michigan more affordable and ensure the next generation can learn, work, build, and thrive right here at home.

Cost-of-Living Crisis.

Any candidate can tell you that we're in an affordability crisis. But vague promises don't cut costs. We need innovators with fresh ideas on how to encourage competition and expand supply.

Housing

Roman will fight to stop corporations and private equity firms from buying up single-family homes in Oakland County neighborhoods.

  • Protect Homebuyers: Crack down on large institutional investors that crowd people out of the housing market.

  • Build More Starter Homes: Reward communities that approve attainable housing with increased revenue sharing.

  • Cut Building Costs: Streamline permitting, cut unnecessary red tape, and address the contractor shortage.

Energy

Roman has a plan to force utility companies to roll back electric rates, wiping out years of rate increases passed onto Michigan families.

  • Accountability: Set standards for performance improvements and require rebates for failure to meet the mark.

  • All-of-the-Above: Repeal mandates which prevent utilities from choosing energy sources with the lowest cost and highest reliability.

  • Fix the Grid: Reform property taxes so utilities aren't penalized for upgrading infrastructure.

Healthcare

Roman will stand up for people experiencing medical emergencies, prohibiting predatory practices from hospital monopolies.

  • Ban Monopoly Pricing: Reform contract law to stop hospital monopolies from preventing price competition with independent providers.

  • Reduce Medical Debt: Implement technology to correct inflated medical bills from human error, and require more forgiving, realistic repayment plans.

  • Secure Medicaid: Crack down on Medicaid fraud, using savings to improve coverage for those who need it.

Education for Opportunity.

Strong Starts

If students don't learn to read by 3rd grade, then they can't read to learn going forward.

Roman will advocate to:

  • Require phonics-based instruction instead of failed methods like whole-word English.

  • Streamline assessments to reduce time in standardized testing and identify struggling readers.

  • Place struggling readers with one-on-one or small group tutors based on need.

Real-Life Skills

Many Michiganders graduate high school without knowing how to write a check, create a budget, or repay a loan.

For high school graduation, students should have a basic understanding of financial literacy—specifically:

  • Spending and budgeting

  • Saving

  • Credit and debt

  • Taxes

  • Insurance

Michigan spends more for each child's education than most states, but student achievement continues to fall behind the national average. We need to get back to the basics and equip the next generation with real-life skills and personalized plans for life after graduation.

Multiple Paths

In today's economy, a four-year degree is not the right choice for everybody.

Roman supports expanding access to:

  • Career and technical education

  • Skilled trades programs

  • Apprenticeships

Roman will work to develop public-private partnerships which guarantee direct pathways to employment for Michiganders who complete these programs.

Build Michigan's Future.

As artificial intelligence gets smarter, technological change will impact Michigan's economy in ways we don't understand. We cannot compete in tomorrow's economy with yesterday's infrastructure.

Artificial Intelligence

Roman supports creating a Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence to give the Legislature sustained expertise and oversight as the technology develops.

  • Surveillance Pricing: Stop corporations from using AI to gouge your family by charging higher prices based on personal data.

  • Protect Children: Establish stronger safeguards around AI products used by minors.

  • Safeguard Personal Data: Give Michiganders greater control over how companies collect and use personal information.

Infrastructure

Michiganders deserve infrastructure that improves daily life and supports future growth.

Roads: Enact longer-lasting road standards, more competition in state contracting for construction, and better coordination of projects so we stop paying for patchwork repairs over and over again.

Data Centers: Require data centers to build out their own energy capacity, use closed-loop cooling systems, and implement measures to mitigate noise.

Water Infrastructure: Increase oversight of major water systems, requiring long-term asset management, preventative maintenance, emergency redundancy, and transparent plans to replace critical infrastructure before it fails.

Make Things Here

Bringing back advanced manufacturing is critical for Michigan's economy and security.

Manufacturing: Refocus economic development initiatives on attracting advanced manufacturing in industries critical to national security, including aerospace, defense, semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, and medical technology.

Regulatory Reform: Review and eliminate unnecessary regulations with a 1-in, 2-out rule.

Workforce Partnerships: Expand partnerships between employers, schools, community colleges, and skilled-trades programs so training reflects the jobs Michigan businesses actually need to fill.
